Good Shepherd is part of a continuum of care offered by the Welty Home for the Aged, Inc., a nonprofit Catholic healthcare facility open to people of all faiths. Clara Welty, the last survivor of a prominent Wheeling family, established the Welty Trust in the mid-20th century to support the mission of The Welty Home for the Aged, Inc. – to provide quality, compassionate care for elderly people.
The Welty Home for the Aged Inc. comprises independent living options such as the spacious, attractive Clara Welty Apartments and Bertha Welty Apartments on National Road in Wheeling’s Pleasant Valley neighborhood. The planned Welty Village, just across the street from Clara Welty Apartments, will add additional 12 single-story courtyard homes for seniors who are able to live independently. The Welty Home, the charming round building in the same block, provides assisted living care.
Finally, Good Shepherd Nursing Home, one-half mile away, provides short-term and long-term physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy as well as nationally recognized nursing care. Short-term rehabilitative care to help people recover and return home after a stroke, knee or hip replacement, or other surgery is available in Good Shepherd’s newly opened First Floor South unit.
