Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely defeat of the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican-American culture. Welty Home residents enjoyed a true Mexican feast this year on May 5th, with Mexican-inspired food and beverages.
One of our residents’ favorite activities is “Cookies and Crafts.” We get together and bake something wonderful, which we then enjoy while making something pretty. Here are a few photos of our efforts this month.
After what seemed like the longest winter, residents were so happy to be outdoors again this month. We observed May, traditionally the month of our Blessed Mother Mary, by placing a crown of flowers on the statue of Mary in our garden.
The warmer weather also meant we could begin gardening again. Residents enjoy planting and helping to maintain the raised flower beds in our beautiful courtyard. As a result of their efforts, we’ll have months of beautiful color this summer and fall.
