Residential Life at Good Shepherd
Amenities and Services in Our Nursing Home
Good Shepherd has 54 private rooms and 69 semi-private rooms. The Braddock Apartments, located within the Good Shepherd Campus offer independent living quarters for spouses of nursing home residents. Fifteen new private apartments were added in 2015.
Life at Good Shepherd includes daily Mass and weekly prayer services led by local ministers in our beautiful chapel. There are plenty of activities like gardening, painting and games to keep residents busy – on any given day residents can enjoy exercise classes, movies, manicures or even pizza delivered right to their rooms. There are lots of entertainment events, including regular musical programs and popular monthly birthday sing-alongs with cake and ice cream. Families are welcome to reserve our Activities Room for private family celebrations for birthdays or other holidays.
Our goal is to assist residents with everything they need. Here are some of the services we provide:
Good Shepherd provides weekly shopping services. Residents can request that we purchase any personal items not readily available at the facility.
Barber and Beautician Services
Good Shepherd has an in-house beauty shop located on the 3rd floor of the facility. Barber and beautician services are available at an additional cost. Residents can make an appointment for beautician services Monday through Friday. A barber visits the facility about every five weeks and is available to provide haircuts in residents’ rooms, if necessary.
Every room is equipped with a telephone jack for each bed. It is the responsibility of the resident to provide the telephone and to contact the telephone company for installation of phone service. Telephones are also available in the second and third floor dayrooms for personal use.
Family, especially those who live out of town, can’t always get in to see their loved ones as often as they’d like. For that reason, Good Shepherd now offers families the opportunity to visit our residents via Skype, an online messaging service. These video chats are offered at no cost to residents and families. Residents can use the private visitation room on the first floor, which is set up with a computer and a webcam, to visit with families between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to chat with loved ones. To make an appointment to video chat with your loved one, contact Tawnya Knierim at 304.242.1093 or 1-844-261-3579.
Good Shepherd residents receive three nutritious meals a day, as well as snacks and beverages between meals and at bedtime. Residents may choose to have breakfast either in their room or with others in a dayroom. Lunch and dinner are served in the dining room. However, residents may choose to also have these meals in their room if they wish.
Meal Schedule: Breakfast service to residents’ rooms begins at 7:30 a.m. Lunch service begins at noon. Lunch is served in the dining room at 12:30 pm.
Residents who are able can choose meals from a weekly menu delivered on Sunday afternoons and collected on Monday mornings.
Good Shepherd has a resident dietician on hand to aid in meal planning. The dietician makes meal selections for residents who are not able to eat regular foods. The resident dietician, occupational therapist, and speech therapist work together to make sure each resident receives the best plan.
